Cameron Highlands Day 1 - Countryside Tour, Brinchang, Night Market

Instead of our usual yearly Batam trip, my girlfriends and I planned to go to Cameron early this year. We wanted to explore somewhere new. Well, God always has a wonderful plan for all of us in life and we were blessed with a wonderful Groupon deal! $198 per pax to Cameron highlands at Strawberry Park resort with Coach for 3D2N, including one steamboat dinner and 2 breakfast covered during the trip. Immediately, we purchased the tickets and blocked out the available dates that we were able to go. Without the Groupon deal, it would have cost us at least $300 for hotel and coach. We were truly delighted to have found such a wonderful deal.

Our coach was under Konsortium and the whole journey towards Cameron from Singapore was about 8 hours. The going up was bumpy and those who are prone to motion sickness, better pack yourself with motion sickness pills at least 30 mins before going up the mountain.

When we arrived, we were welcomed with the cool morning air, slightly lower than air-con temperature. It was exhilarating for me because I was finally on the ground with cold weather. My friends can vouch for me on how much I adore cold weather that sometimes I wish Singapore was located in London. It might have been perfect.

We had an hour plus stopover at Brinchang, one of the big main towns in Cameron, for breakfast and local tour sign up. As I have done my planning before, we have booked a local sunrise spectacular tour with Titiwangsatours and another countryside tour with Strawberry Park Resort. There was plenty of time as we were very early and check-in of the hotel is usually at 2pm. We managed to check early into one room first and the people are there are really friendly and courteous. The malay locals will speak to you in Malay as that is their first language.

By late noon, we joined our first countryside tour. Visiting the different farms that can be found on Cameron (flower, butterfly, bees, strawberry and finally the Boh tea plantation). Personally, I find that strawberries were overrated in Cameron as it seems like it's imported from else where as they are not grown on the ground. What is truly unique in Cameron would mainly be the Tea plantations and local fresh vegetables that you can find almost everywhere. Corns and sweet potatoes are a must try as it is really sweet and fresh. Steamboats for dinner are not to missed as well.

Our tour ended in the evening and we had dinner at our resort before heading out the night market at Brinchang, right behind regent hotel. It was buzzing with people, lights and loads of food and products. I was quite overwhelmed by the amount of people that was there. Reminds me of Singapore's pasar malam. If you want to avoid the night crowd, you can head there in the late noon where they are much lesser people. They are opened by late noon about 5pm onwards. You cannot imagine how much I have splurge at the night market. Did you know? Part of holiday for me is to eat and shop.

Loads of fresh vegetables readily available
It drizzled while we were shopping at the night market and before we were further suffocated by the crowd, we left the night market. Taxi were told to be 30RM after 8.30pm and Titiwangsatours offers to sent us back to our respective hotel at 3RM per person after 8.30pm. We call it a day and headed back to our hotel with Titiwangsatours.

My itinerary for this trip can be found at Cameron Highlands 3D2N Itinerary From Singapore.
