Thailand Day 1 - 3: Bangkok

8 Feb 2013 marks my very first trip into the land of smiles! Thanks to an awesome friend of mine, I didn't have to do any planning at all and just get on the flight to enjoy.

We took Air Asia to Don Meong international airport, which happens to be the older airport for budget airlines I heard. We missed a couple of good deals for air tickets and had to pay in total 200+ for it with additional 15kg load. Being really prepared for loads of shopping, I brought my huge luggage (which is capable to taking up to 20kg) with me. Well, naturally I was laughed at by my newly befriended Thai friends but I didn't regret making that move because I brought back loads of food on the last day.

Thai Sticky Rice
We stayed in S Sukhumvit Suites, which was conveniently located right beside Asok BTS. The hotel rooms were pretty but we had some issues with the aircon temperature and water pipe bursting on the 2nd night of our stay. What really amused us was that we went the wrong hotel (The continent) thinking it was ours and was totally impressed with the interior design. Of course, we were disappointed when we realised it was the wrong hotel.

Salted Egg Papaya Salad
Our shopping was quite a rush one as we only had 2 days to shop. So we allocated day one for night market, MBK, Platinum and another day for Chatuchak market. Chatuchak market was crazily stuffy and hot by 10am! The area was so huge that one wrong turn will separate you from everybody else. That's what happened to our group when we realised that one person was missing and had to spent sometime to re-group. It was quite an experience to people squeeze and bargain for items that we would like to purchase. Things get repetitive as go around the different stalls.

Food in Thailand was amazing as we were never once let down at all! If you plan to visit pubs or clubs in Bangkok, remember to bring some sort of ID with you as they were quite strict and didn't allow us to go in without it. Also, they do have a time limit to when you are able to buy alcohol at supermarket.

Writes occasionally, enjoys quirky moments and loves to a cuppa coffee.
